Our Board

 

OUR BOARD

The Pacific Business Trust is governed by a board of Trustees appointed by the Minister of Pacific Islands Affairs for a term of 3 years. A Chief Executive is appointed by the Board and has overall responsibility for the operational functions of the Trust and to deliver on set outcomes. The Chief Executive and the management team of the Trust oversee the daily operations of the Trust. Should you wish to email a board member simply click on their name.

Hamish Crooks - Chairperson

Hamish is New Zealand born of Cook Island and Scottish descent .He was appointed as Chair to the Board of Trustees during April 2008 after serving as Deputy Chair since 2006 and board member since 2004. . He has a Bachelor of Commerce degree which he gained from Otago University.
Hamish is the managing Director of his own management consultancy company 4PM Group Ltd based in Manukau. He has worked as a management accountant and auditor in the private sector, before moving into the community and public sector organisations in management positions.
He offers a wealth of experience for the Pacific Business Trust and has a passion for community and economic development work in relation to Pacific communities. He is married with two children.

Sitiveni Mavoa - Deputy Chair


Siti is Fijian; was appointed Deputy Chair for the Board of Trustees in April 2008 after completing one year as a Board member. He is married with four children, and has one grandchild. A Chartered Accountant and Justice of the Peace, he has a strong commitment to progress the social and economic status of the Pacific community, both in Aotearoa and in the South Pacific. In past Siti has been a Consultant in the Auckland region , former Senior Executive at ASB Trusts , a former senior excutive in large Retail Department Stores and a couple of other industries. He was also involved with Audits in one of the largest firm’s of Chartered Accountants in New Zealand and overseas. Siti offers a wealth of knowledge to the Pacific Business Trust which has been gained from his experience in his many roles such as being a current member of the Variety International Children South Pacific Mission; past Chairman of the Pacific Island Education Resource Centre (PIERC); past President of the Auckland Fiji Community and New Zealand Fiji Community ; former President of PIECCA; past Chairman and founding member of the Pacific Island Advisory Board of Waitakere City; a former Board member of Henderson High School, a former member of Community Advisory Group to the Vice-Chancellor of University of Auckland and a member of the government appointed Ministry of Pacific Islands Review Taskforce .

Shirley Sisepi -Fraser

Shirley was appointed as a member of the Board of Trustees in April 2007 and has brought a large quantity of positive energy to the Trust with her wealth of experience and global exposure. Niuean born and raised Shirley lives in Auckland although very involved in the Niue community. She is married with two sons.
Shirley brings a wealth of knowledge in IT and business management to the Pacific Business Trust with a special focus in the Services Industry. She has obtained an extensive experience in the IT industry, in which she has worked for over 20 years, with the last 10 years as a Consultant to international clients. She is currently Managing Consultant for Thomson Reuters – Asia Pacific.

Caren Rangi

Caren is a New Zealand born Cook Islands Maori, and is Principal of Ei Mua Consulting Ltd , based in Napier. As a qualified chartered accountant, her career includes four years as Sector Manager, Local Government in the Office of the Controller and Auditor-General. In 1999 she moved into management consulting, where her first project was working on public sector reform in the Cayman Islands. Since then her consulting work has been mainly in community development and the health sector, with a focus on Pacific communities. Caren's past governance experience includes serving as a founding member of the National Pacific Radio Trust, and as a Councillor of Whitireia Community. She is currently a trustee of the Commonwealth Study Conferences of New Zealand Trust. Caren is a staunch supporter of the development of the Cook Islands community in New Zealand, and has recently been appointed as a Hawkes Bay representative of the National Executive of the Cook Islands Health Network Association . Caren and her partner McKenzie are proud parents of a son and daughter.

Selma Scott

Selma is Samoan and is a lawyer living in Christchurch. She holds a BA (History) and LLB from the University of Canterbury. She has extensive legal, justice, housing, and accident compensation sector experience.
After being admitted to the Law Bar in New Zealand and in Samoa in 1986, she returned to Samoa where she worked as a Legal Officer for the Public Service Commission. She and her family returned to New Zealand during 1987. She worked as a Tenancy Officer for the Housing Corporation, Probation Officer in the Justice Department, and Review Officer for Accident Compensation Corporation.
Prior to establishing her own law practice, Scott & Co, in July 2003, Selma worked as a Barrister and Solicitor for other law firms, and as a barrister sole. Her main areas of practice include immigration, property, accident compensation, family, and employment law.
Selma is currently the Chair of the Niu Economic & Enterprise Development Trust in Christchurch. She is also a member of the Ministerial Advisory Council to the Minister of Pacific Island Affairs.
She is happily married with 3 children, which she considers are her greatest achievements.
